Fused Ceramic Sand and Its Application

Introduction to Fused Ceramic sand

Fused Ceramic sand is also known as electric melting ceramsite. Bauxite ore raw materials containing 65% ~ 80% Al2O3 are added into the electric arc furnace. The bauxite raw materials are melted into liquid by using the high temperature generated by the electric arc discharge. When the liquid flows out of the furnace, the air pressure of 70 ~ 85m / S is applied to it. After the liquid raw materials are crushed and cooled by strong wind, the smooth sand particles with spherical shape or close to spherical shape are obtained.

Fused Ceramic sand is made from high-quality bauxite through calcination, electrofusion, granulation, screening and other processes. Because it has the advantages of high temperature resistance, good air permeability, collapsibility, acid and alkali resistance, and low crushing rate, its cost performance is better than that of chromite sand and zircon sand, which provides a simple and effective method for foundry manufacturers to improve casting quality, reduce production costs and reduce environmental pollution.

Characteristics of Fused Ceramic sand

(1) The thermal expansion coefficient is small, and the performance is comparable to that of zircon sand. When using it to prepare core sand, the castings will not have expansion defects.

(2) The sand particles are spherical, with good fluidity, easy compaction and good air permeability.

(3) The surface is smooth and the structure is dense, so that the binder can be evenly covered.

(4) Fused Ceramic sand is a neutral material, which can be used as acid or alkali binder.

(5) Good recycling performance and high cost performance.

Compared with chromite ore and zircon sand, its price is only 25% ~ 50% of zircon sand. At the same time, because the sand is spherical and its surface area is small, the amount of resin added can be reduced by 30% ~ 50%, and the amount of sodium silicate added 4%; The casting defects caused by binder are reduced and the yield of castings is improved.

(6) High fire resistance, easy to collapse.

The mullite phase of Fused Ceramic sand is much higher than that of sintered products and has good fire resistance

(7) High thermal conductivity, good stability and no cracking.

(8) Wide range of applications. Sodium silicate sand, resin sand, precision casting, shell mold casting, 3D printing, polishing and cleaning of copper and aluminum parts, etc.

Application of Fused Ceramic sand in foundry

At present, Fused Ceramic sand is widely used in resin sand (furan resin, phenolic resin), sodium silicate sand (organic resin, Co. hardening), and coated sand. Suitable for various metal castings, such as carbon steel, alloy steel (high manganese steel, high chromium cast iron), cast iron, cast copper, etc.
