Fused Ceramic Sand -Ideal Ladle Filler Sand

What is ladle filler sand?

Ladle filler sand is commonly used in smelting industry. The ladle filler sand has the advantages of good fluidity, good permeability, fast flow rate and resistance to molten steel erosion. Ladle filler sand is mainly used in the smelting process of metallurgical industry to improve the quality and output of steel and reduce product costs. Ladle filler sand is an indispensable refractory for tapping of eccentric furnace. It is mainly composed of forsterite and fused magnesia as the main raw materials, and carbon material as the additive according to the specific particle size and weight percentage, After trial use, it has been proved that the ladle filler sand has good dispersive fluidity, high refractoriness, no sintering, no clogging, 100% ladle filler rate of tapping rate, service temperature ≥ 1750, no chemical reaction with molten steel and alloy composition, no variability in storage quality, and can meet the requirements of steel-making process. It is an ideal refractory for eccentric furnace steelmaking.

Disadvantages of chromite sand and silica sand as ladle filler sand

Chromite sand ladle filler agent has good performance, but it has serious environmental pollution and high cost; The silica sand ladle filler agent is not conducive to the free fall of sand filling, and the natural fluidity is poor, which is easy to cause shed material. Fused ceramic sand ladle filler agent is an ideal substitute for chromite sand, and its particle shape is spherical, which can effectively reduce the strength of the sintered layer and is conducive to the pouring of ladle filler sand; In addition, its proportion is small and its cost is far lower than that of chromite ore.

Fused ceramic sand is the most promising ladle filler sand

In the iron and steel smelting industry, the ladle filler sand of molten steel refining ladle is also popularized and applied at present, and its use specification is 30 mesh. In the production of ladle filler sand, Fused ceramic sand has the advantages of replacing chromite sand: high refractoriness: the main component is aluminum oxide, so the refractoriness is ≥ 1800 ℃, and the thickness of the sintered layer can be reduced without excessive sintering at a certain molten steel temperature; Harvest; Spherical particle shape: the particle shape is close to the true circle, the surface is smooth, without concave convex veins, and its fluidity is good, which is conducive to pouring; In the ladle filler sand, Fused ceramic sand can be used completely or partially instead of chromite sand according to the proportion, and the price is far lower than that of chromite sand; Low thermal expansion rate: it has low thermal conductivity and small expansion after heating, which can prevent shed materials; Contact with molten steel can form a protective layer, which can prevent the ladle filler from floating up and the molten steel from seeping/permeating. Attention shall be paid to when using. During tapping, it is necessary to prevent the steel flow from directly impacting the ladle shape and affecting the gravity flow rate of open casting. The added ladle filler agent shall be stacked into a small ladle, and the center/center of the ladle shall be aligned with the ladle outlet.
